Problem: How do I setup a Windows Shared authenticated printer in Samba using Cups?

 

Cause: When using SAMBA as the NT Domain controller the Guest user cannot be used to log onto NT Client PC shares.

Typical errors may include:

NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED

Tree connect failed.

 

Solution:

Ensure Samba is running

  1. Log into the Samba server administration http://server:631
  2. Select the Printer → Add Printers
  3. Give a Name, an optional Location, and an optional Description
  4. Click Continue
  5. Select Windows printer via SAMBA as the device
  6. Click Continue
  7. For the Device URI use: smb://user:password@pc/printer
    Where
    user = the user to log in as
    password = the user’s password
    pc = the Netbios name
    printer = printer share name
  8. Select the Make & Modell
