Problem:  How do I initiate a restore operation from the Media tab in Backup Exec for Windows NT and Windows 2000?

Solution:

1. Insert the tape that contains the data to be restored.
2. Open Backup Exec to the “Devices” tab.
3. Select the tape drive that contains the tape where the data resides.
4. Right click the tape drive and select “Inventory”. (Figure 1)

5. After the inventory job has completed the tape will appear on the right-hand pane of the “Devices” tab when the tape drive is selected on the left-hand pane.
6. On the right-hand pane, right click the tape and select “Catalog”. (Figure 2)
Note: If a catalog for this media is already present on the Restore Selections tab, skip this step and go to Step 9.

7. A “Catalog Storage Media” dialog box will appear, select “Run Now”. (Figure 3)

8. After the catalog job has completed open Backup Exec to the “Media” tab and select the tape to be used for the restore operation.
9. Right click the tape to be used in the restore operation and select “Restore.” (Figure 4)

10. A new “Restore Job Properties” window will appear with the tape selected for restore operations hi-lighted. (Figure 5)

11. Click the plus (+) sign in front of the hi-lighted tape to display the items that can be selected for restoration. (Figure 6)

12. Place check marks in the items to be restored and then select one of the options at the bottom to Run, Save or Schedule the restore operation. (Figure 7)
